Thin provisioning(MagicVol)
MagicVol is a self-developed thin provisioning technology developed by Valley Technology. It can create data volumes of any size in the storage system, and its space can be flexibly adjusted according to needs to improve storage utilization.。
MagicVol adopts advanced small reserve preparation technology, and the space is arbitrarily stretched and dynamically occupied, which significantly increases the space utilization rate from the traditional 20-30% to 60-80%. Since the data volume does not need to directly correspond to the physical disk, a storage pool can have multiple data volumes, so the storage space can be allocated very easily, and there is no need to allocate real space to the data volume in advance, and the system automatically allocates when the user data is written. Space, each volume can share the aggregate performance of all disks, so users get more granular data management, higher space utilization and better performance。
Dynamic caching(Dynamic Cache Technique)
Storage systems use Dynamic Cache Technology (DCT) to dramatically improve IOPS performance and bandwidth for superior performance in mixed load environments. Data access can be summarized as sequential I/O operations and random I/O operations, requiring storage systems to provide Cache and Cache Mirror to provide high performance and high reliability. If the Cache Mirror function is enabled, sequential I/O operations will generate a large amount of ICL communication, which will have an impact on the overall performance of the system. The cache hit rate of random I/O operations is very low, and the operating system frequently swaps the data in the Cache, which also affects performance. In response to this problem, the Valley Storage Operating System uses a unique DCT technology to dynamically utilize Cache to greatly improve system performance. Enable the dynamic cache technology function of the LUN. For write-aligned full stripe data, the system uses Write Through to directly write to the physical disk without buffering. For non-aligned partial stripe data, write data to the write cache. Cache mirroring to another controller write cache, and then telling the host that the write operation is completed, and finally the storage system writes the data in the write cache to the physical disk (ie, Write Back mode) when appropriate.。
The dynamic cache technology directly writes user data to the physical disk by using Write Through for the full stripe write mode. Because the user data is not cached, the Cache image is generated only for the metadata generated by the write operation, and the amount of metadata data is very small, which greatly reduces the ICL load loss and improves system performance. This method is especially suitable for continuous I/O write operations on large data blocks, significantly improving system performance.。
